Oppose

Bill SB 416 was introduced to the Senate on January 23, 2019 and then was referred to the Joint Transportation Committee. It is not yet scheduled for a hearing on the committee’s docket.

SB 416 asks that the general statutes be amended to permit the use of cameras on certain highways for the limited purpose of assisting with accident investigations. The slope is too slippery. The bill language doesn’t further describe the scope of “accident investigations” or define “limited purpose.” Photo enforcement companies offer cameras to make money and the way to do that is to use the cameras to issue tickets. The NMA is opposed to the use of  speed cameras and red-light cameras for the reasons put forward.
