Akron & Cleveland
both make the news this week by announcing plans to use electronics to catch speeders and red light runners.

Akron: wants to purchase the "Procam Laser Device" (read about it here).  They say it isn't about the money (right)!

Cleveland: wants to install about 20 red light cameras, but at least they admit the bottom line is MONEY!!  (Read the details here).

Can you believe this; "give this guy a break because he's an organ donor"?  Not that there is anything wrong with being an organ donor, everyone should!  It's just that they think we believe some cop is going to give us a break because of it; YEAH RIGHT!

Want to check on a traffic ticket, court record, case, fine or outcome?  The City of Akron Municipal Court has given "us" an easy method to find this information; but be careful.... because the moron that designed (at least it appears he is taking credit for it) this website has designed it to allow you to enter your SSN, or DL number via an unencrypted web page .  I asked them about this but they haven't replied, what a surprise.

Ohio cities and municipalities in the news

Whoa, looks like Cincinnati is at it again!  (08/04) The Cincinnati City Council has approved a measure allowing the installation of red light cameras and photo radar in the city. The good news is that the battle against this measure is not over. The council is required to review the measure and vote on it a second time. Also, Mayor Charlie Luken has vowed to veto the legislation, but there's a chance that his veto may be overridden. If you live in the Cincinnati area you should contact the council members and voice your opposition to this measure. Their contact information can be found at: http://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/council/pages/-4126-/.

Cincinnati  Do truckers need to slow down in Lytle Tunnel or is poor highway design the problem?  "Driver error to blame, not design, officials say", but is this the "real reason"?  State highway officials, that "redesign" would have added at least $100 million to the $313-million project — and taken away the prime riverfront real estate now used for Great American Ball Park.
