Reasons To Donate To The NMA Foundation
Your gift to the NMAF is 100 percent tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
You'll reduce your personal tax burden while promoting the causes of personal freedom, reasonable traffic laws, and individual mobility. The larger your gift, the greater your personal tax benefit will be.
Your contributions will aid with important independent research.
We are the lone voice of reason in a sea of biased research. We need your help! Your gift today will enable the foundation to fund studies to combat the misleading distortions promoted by the safety lobby and law enforcement regarding traffic laws and transportation policies.
You will see your donations producing worthwhile educational materials.
Are you tired of driving on roads with inconsiderate people lacking basic motorist skills? Your contribution, along with those of others, can change that. NMAF-produced drivers' education materials teach practical skills and emphasize driver-to-driver courtesy.
When you contribute to the NMAF you will fund precedent-setting litigation.
Your rights are being eroded. Join us today! Together we can put a stop to efforts meant to strip you of basic freedoms. The foundation is fighting for you against a myriad of unfair traffic laws and limitations on your ability to defend yourself in court.
You know the NMA has been trustworthy and goal-oriented for more than 25 years.
While the NMA continues to move forward in the political arena, the NMA Foundation will work to the advantage of all motorists on other, non-political, projects while maintaining the same level of integrity you have come to expect from the NMA.
Planned Giving Opportunities
There is no better way to help the NMA Foundation further our shared goals of personal freedom, reasonable traffic laws, and individual mobility than to support our efforts to build a meaningful endowment that can fund our research, education and litigation projects.
Gifts of Stocks, Bonds, or other Securities
Note that significant tax savings are available to those of you who donate appreciated securities. Gifts can include those made electronically through a brokerage account or directly from a mutual fund.
Vehicle Donations
Your car, truck, or recreational vehicle can now be donated to the NMA Foundation. If interested, call us at 608-849-6000 and we will arrange the timely pick-up of your vehicle. (It does not even need to be in working order). Donors are eligible for a full tax deduction based on the "sold" value of the vehicle!
Real Estate
Donors may choose to donate real estate to the NMA Foundation. This type of donation may include either appreciated developed property (personal residences, summer homes, farms, ranches, condominiums, and commercial or industrial real estate) or undeveloped land.
Trusts
There are multiple different types of trusts, each with its own unique set of guidelines. Trusts can be designed to provide support to the NMA Foundation both during and after your life. Revocable trusts afford a donor the right to alter the trust's terms or revoke it altogether if it should become necessary. Generally speaking, trusts offer a great deal more leverage and privacy to donors than standard wills. It is best to consult you financial planner or accountant in choosing the type that would be best for you.
Life Insurance
Donors are often able to give a great deal more through the gift of a life insurance policy than would otherwise be possible. Life insurance gifts can take several forms: a paid-up policy, a policy in which the NMA Foundation is named as the beneficiary, or an existing policy where the NMA Foundation is listed as a contingent beneficiary to which proceeds can be paid if the primary beneficiary dies before the insured. A donor is eligible for a federal income tax deduction for the approximate value of the existing life insurance policy that was gifted, as well as tax deductions covering annual insurance premiums thereafter.
Retirement Plans
Most retirement plans can serve as excellent charitable gifts. Balances remaining at time of death from plans, such as IRA, 401-K or 403b, are subject to both income and estate taxes. If the plan is properly willed to the NMA Foundation, these taxes can be avoided.
If you are interested in any of the planned giving options discussed above, you are encouraged to consult your financial planner or accountant.
For additional information about any of these options, or to ask a specific question, call the NMA at 608-849-6000 or e-mail donate@motorists.org.

Donors interested in making substantial contributions to the foundation are welcome to designate a particular project they would like to fund.
To discuss the possibility of such a gift, call us at (608) 849-6000 or e-mail donate@motorists.org.
