NMA Position on ITS
Intelligent Transportation System technology offers many opportunities to serve and benefit motorists. It also has the potential for great abuse on the part of government and industry. To the extent that ITS technology can expedite traffic, reduce delays, forewarn motorists of delays and/or dangerous conditions and improve the capacity of the highway system it should be supported and encouraged. Conversely, the NMA will oppose efforts to use ITS technology to ration highway capacity, dictate travel routes, enforce traffic laws or expand tolling.
