Have Your Say: NMA Forums Launched

We’re happy to announce the launch of the new NMA Forums.

Over the years we’ve received various requests asking for a discussion board for people interested in the issues the NMA covers. Until now, for various reasons, we haven’t been able to create one, but circumstances have changed.

The lively discussions in the comments section of the NMA Blog have given us hope that the new NMA Forums will be a success and we encourage you to create an account and start posting.

Our goal was to keep things simple and we think we’ve accomplished that, but if you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment on this post. Please bear with us as we work out any initial bugs.

READER FEEDBACK

Recently we asked you for feedback on how the NMA Blog could be more useful to you. After reading the responses, we’ve made a few changes to the sidebar section of the blog (the area on the right side of the site). Many of these features have been around for quite a while but this is a good opportunity to point out what is available to readers in the sidebar.

Sidebar Features (from top to bottom):

1) RSS Updates Option
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It’s a way for people to be notified when a new article is posted to the blog and requires an RSS feed reader. You can learn more about how it all works by watching this short, entertaining video from www.commoncraft.com:

You can also subscribe to an RSS feed that will update you whenever a new comment is posted to any article on the blog.

2) Email Updates Option
This is another way to be notified when a new article has been posted. After you sign up, you’ll receive the full article in your email inbox.

To sign up, just enter your email address and click “Get Updates”. A verification email will be sent to you with a link that you can click to activate your blog updates subscription. This is a completely spam-free process and is offered for no charge.

3) NMA Information
This section is primarily for new visitors to the blog and/or people unfamiliar with the National Motorists Association. It offers a quick overview of the organization and a link to the main NMA website.

4) Search Box
This has always been available at the bottom of the sidebar, but we have moved it to a more prominent position. It’s a quick way to find posts containing specific phrases.

5) Most Popular Posts
This is a list of the top ten most popular articles on the blog (determined by a combination of # of visits and # of comments). It provides a good entry point for new visitors.

6) Recent Comments
The five most recent comments across the entire blog are excerpted here.

7) National News Stories
This is a list of recent news stories from various sources across the country. This section has news stories that we think would be of interest to readers of the blog.

8) Topics
We recently went through and categorized each article by the topics it covers. You can find a list of those topics in this section. We also categorized articles by author so you’ll find those tags in this section as well.

9) Archives
You can view all the posts by month using this dropdown menu.

Hopefully this helps clarify what’s available to readers of this blog. If you have any other questions, post them in the comments and we’ll do our best to answer them. And don’t forget to sign up for an account in the new NMA Forums!
